Hilburn sisters named to All-District XC Team
October 28, 2016, 3:41 pm

Sophomore Georgia Hilburn (21:16) began a surge with more than a mile and a half to go in last Thursday's (10/27) 1-5A District Cross Country Championship on a hot and dusty 3-mile South Bossier Course to take and hold 5th position overall earning her a spot on the 2016 All-District Cross Country Team.  Her sister, freshman Olivia Hilburn (21:47), finished in sight just 150m behind Georgia with enough speed to countersurge a last minute effort by Airline's more seasoned Anelisse Jones to take 7th place overall, also earning Olivia honors as a member of the All-District Cross Country Team. Nice job girls!

As a team, the Shreve girls finished 4th place at District (just 1 pt. behind 3rd place Haughton) as the top team from Caddo with outstanding races from top 20 finisher junior Mary VanHoy (14th, 24:00), senior Rachel Jeansonne (35th, 2:54), junior Maddie Young (42nd, 31:14), sophomore Robbi Upchurch (44th, 32:43), and sophomore Michaela Adams (34:59).  The Hilburns, VanHoy, Jeansonne and the Upchurch sisters will race for the team at Regionals on Saturday in Pineville.

Our very young boys team finished 4th in the district with a top 20 finish by freshman Bennett Carby (16th, 18:09) to lead the Gator’s effort.  Also finishing the regular season and the district meet strong were sophomore Jake Kingery (22nd, 18:57), freshman Stewart Simon (28th, 19:10), sophomores Bobby Shell (33rd, 19:29) and Chase Harner (41st, 20:10) who also earned points for the team for the first meet this season by turning in a personal record time.  Also earning spots on the Regional Team for next week in Pineville with strong races at District were junior Parker Smith (44th, 20:46) and sophomore Tanner Hines (52nd, 22:32).  Finishing just seconds behind our boys leaders were freshmen Jared Browning (54th, 23:06) and Jerimiah Vance (55th, 23:07) and sophomore Kenneth Thomas (56th, 23:10).  Kudos to freshman Keegan Koon (67th, 33:17) who showed tremendous courage in starting and finishing his second 3-mile race ever and to our newest team member, transfer and track star from Benton High, Garret Cox, who has proudly trained with, supported and encouraged his teammates while awaiting transfer eligibility clearance.

The team will race at Regionals this weekend in Pineville to qualify for State.
